1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Decy: Decibel Meter & Noise Map (“the app,” “we,” “our”) handles your information. The app is available on iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Google Play Store). By using the app on either platform, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the app’s features:
a) Sound Level Data
Your device’s microphone is used to measure ambient sound levels in real time. Audio is processed entirely on your device. No audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted.
b) Location Data
When you use the Noise Map feature, we collect your approximate GPS location with your permission. This data is used solely to display noise readings on the map. Location data is stored anonymously and is never linked to your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information.
c) Anonymous Identifiers
To enable features like pin ownership on the Noise Map, the app uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication to generate a random identifier stored locally on your device. This identifier is not linked to your identity and resets if you uninstall the app.
d) Hearing Health Data
The Hearing Age Test and daily health scoring features process sound frequency response data entirely on your device. If you use the AI Trend Analysis feature (Premium), anonymized numerical summaries of your noise exposure and hearing test scores are sent to our secure backend for processing. No personally identifiable information is included in this data.
e) Crash Reports and Analytics
We collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage statistics via Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to improve app stability and performance. This data does not contain any personally identifiable information.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and improve the app’s features
- Display noise readings on the community Noise Map
- Generate personalized AI-powered hearing health insights (Premium)
- Diagnose technical issues and fix bugs
- Ensure the app performs reliably across devices and platforms
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
4. Noise Map and Shared Data
The Noise Map feature allows users to contribute anonymous noise readings visible to all users of the app. When you use this feature, your approximate location and the measured decibel level are shared anonymously. You may delete your own pins at any time from within the app. We do not share this data with third parties for commercial purposes.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share anonymous, aggregated data with third-party service providers solely to operate the app’s infrastructure. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for any other purpose.
6. Platform-Specific Information
iOS
On iOS, all subscription purchases are processed through Apple’s App Store. App data remains on your device unless you explicitly use a backup or sync service. Your use of Apple services is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy at apple.com/privacy.
Android
On Android, the app requests the following permissions:
- RECORD_AUDIO: To measure ambient sound levels in real time.
- ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: To display your position on the Noise Map.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS: To send noise alert notifications when sound levels exceed your chosen threshold.
- INTERNET: To sync Noise Map data and deliver app features.
These permissions are used solely for the features described in this policy. You may revoke any permission at any time through your device’s Settings app. On Android, all subscription purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. If you enable device backup, app data may be backed up through Google’s backup infrastructure in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
iOS: All subscription purchases are processed through Apple’s App Store. We do not collect, process, or store any payment or billing information. Your purchase history is managed entirely by Apple.
Android: All subscription purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. We do not collect, process, or store any payment or billing information. Your purchase history is managed entirely by Google.
On both platforms, subscription management is also facilitated by RevenueCat on our behalf.
8. Data Retention
Locally stored data (measurement history, hearing test results, settings) remains on your device until you delete the app. Anonymous data contributed to the Noise Map may be retained on our servers until you delete your pins or uninstall the app. AI Trend Analysis results are stored locally on your device and are not retained on our servers.
9. Your Rights
Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, most requests can be fulfilled by deleting the app or removing your pins from the Noise Map.
Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Users in California have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion.

10. Children’s Privacy
This app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, or under the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction (16 in some EEA countries). The app contains no age-restricted content and is suitable for general audiences. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it promptly.
11. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data we collect. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The app uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
